Canon Pixma G6020 Megatank All-In-One Printer Review
Companies such as Canon have introduced Megatank Printers that can hold much more ink than standard ink cartridges to overcome the high replacement cost of ink cartridges. These Megatank printers are one of the cost-effective printing solutions today. They are capable of printing thousands of pages before running out of ink. They have all the same features as the average inkjet printer, but instead of relying on ink cartridges, mega tank printers use a refillable tank system to perform printing duties. When your ink levels run low, you need to fill the tank with the bottle's appropriate amount.
The PIXMA
G6020 is an entry-level all-in-one Inkjet printer from Canon. It's a solid
performer, built for a heavy workload. It is a dependable printer for both home
and office use. PIXMA G6020 is capable of delivering quality printing results
at a low cost. It can print, scan and copy any document, but it doesn't have a
fax facility. This blog will review the PIXMA G6020 design, features, setup,
printing quality, and speed. Lastly, we will give you our final verdict.
Design
PIXMA G6020
has a compact body, weighing 17.8 pounds, and is well suited for home and small
office use. It's also smaller and lighter than other bulk-in competitors. The
printer is outfitted with four refillable ink tanks, pigment black, and three
dye-based colors: cyan, magenta, and yellow. In the box, you get two extra
black ink bottles. Each ink bottle is valued at $18 and can print up to 12,00
pages. Because of it, PIXMA G6020 was included in the list of best printers of
2021 Tom's Guide Awards and one of the best all-in-one printers.
It features
a duplexer which comes in handy in making two-sided prints. But the printer
doesn't have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for scanning and copying
multi-page documents. But its spacious paper input trays, various connectivity
options, and other handy attributes make up for it. Its paper input capacity of
350 sheets is split between a 250-sheet central drawer and a sheet tray with
100 sheets. Its control panel may also seem outdated, as it only features a few
physical buttons for selecting operations, navigation keys, and a few status
LCDs.
Printing Speed
The G6020
can print a five-page text document in about 33.5 seconds, or at 9 ppm. And it
took about 2 minutes 46 seconds, or 2.2 ppm, to print a six-page PDF containing
texts and color graphics, which is lower than the average of 2.6 ppm. Its
two-sided print speed for text documents was approximately the same as its
print speed for one-sided color documents, which is 2.3 ppm. It paused for
about 14 seconds during printing before heading to the second side of each
sheet.
Making a
copy of black & white prints took 11.3 seconds, and for a color copy, it
took 31.2 seconds. Its scanning speed is fast; it took 8.4 seconds to make a
300dpi black & White PDF. And it took 1 minute 5 seconds to make a 600 dpi
scan to JPG format.
Print Quality
In the case
of printed color graphics, the printer captured everything with fine details,
from attractive textures to natural-looking, well-saturated colors. The G6020
prints stunning text documents with dark letterforms and sharp edges. The same
results can be seen in duplex prints. Upon close examination, you may notice
mild distortion and slight pixelation in those smooth-looking textures. Even
the two-sided color prints were equally impressive.
The G6020
glossy photo prints were beautiful, with fine detailing and well-saturated
colors. Sharp details and accurate textures were noticeable in both black &
white and color scans. The colors were correct, and the details were also
retained in shadow areas of the scanned photos. Even the scanned copies proved
to be faithful reproductions of the originals.
Ink Cost
The PIXMA
G6020 managed to keep its printing costs low by using a refillable ink tank
instead of traditional ink cartridges. A bottle of pigment black ink will cost
around $17.99, and it can print up to 6,000 pages. The other three color ink
will cost you around $11.99 per bottle, and they can print up to 7,700 pages
each. Overall it will cost you around 0.2 cents for text and 0.8 cents for
color prints.
Setup and Features
After
removing the packaging tape, you must install the printheads in the box and
fill the ink tanks. Then you have to fill the ink, which is an easy and
mess-free process, with almost no risk of spillage. The ink bottle nozzles fit
perfectly into the ink tank valve. Then you have to align the printhead
properly.
The setup
process is very simple and will hardly take a few minutes. It features a WPS
method, which you can select in the on-screen menu. Just press the WPS button
on your wireless router to establish the connection. The dedicated black &
white and color buttons on the control panel make the standalone copying
process very simple. Navigating menus with the two-line monochrome LCD do its
job efficiently. But they may not feel as elegant as a large touchscreen.
Connecting
the printer with your mobile is easy-peasy. The Canon Print app can establish a
stable wireless connection. The app is readily available on Play Store and
Apple store. The start-up time is fast enough, and its menu screen will be
visible in just 3 seconds. I took 30 seconds right from pressing the power
button to immediately making a black & white copy.
Conclusion
The Canon
PIXMA G6020 Mega Tank offers many features for the amount you are paying,
including high image quality across the board. However, its major drawbacks are
the absence of ADF, fax facility, and slow two-sided printing. The low price
and the refillable ink tanks balance out its shortcomings.
